RE: Installing tow package on Dodge Ram?

If you install all LED's, your turn signals might flash too fast because there is not enough resistance. If your LED's don't come with a resistor installed you'll have to install one. I believe you can find kits for that. I've also heard replacing your solid state flasher relay with an electronic one will solve the problem as well.
Next year I plan on replacing the tail lights on my truck and trailer with LED's. Let us know how you make out.

RE: Toilet Paper, What brands work?

Scotts actually have RV paper but their regular 1000' roll says it's RV safe. That's what we use.

RE: Atlantic City RV show

I have off that weekend so the wife and I will be going. On Saturday most likely. Just to look around, not looking to upgrade just yet.

Hoppy wiring harness?

A guy on another forum I belong to is asking if these harnesses are any good? It's the style that plugs in between his lights and the plug. He has a '99 Dodge Ram.

RE: Has anyone used a 'SHAMWOW!!!"

All you guys, with your comments, just burst my Billy Mays bubble. I thought he only sold the best, most cutting edge products out there. I thought he was genuine and sincere about the stuff he sells.
Now you've got me re-thinking getting my health insurance through him. ;)

RE: Make- A- Wish gives a Pop Up to cancer patient

This is a very cool story. It's a great gift too. My son is special needs and Variety Club got him a special stroller when he was younger.
Make-a-Wish, Easter Seals, Variety Club, and all the organizations like these are great charities. Please continue supporting these groups, they do so much for so many.

RE: any electricians out there?

How did you test the outlet? Hot to neutral or hot to ground. Sounds like you might have lost the neutral. You can have 110v (or 115v or 120v) from hot to ground with no neutral. But without the neutral nothing will work. That's the return path for the electricity.
Another bit of advice...
Since this wire is not buried at the proper depth and not in conduit, at the very LEAST I would replace the breaker with a GFCI breaker. Ideally I would suggest replacing the entire circuit and do the new one according to your local codes. The NEC does allow you to run type "UF" wire directly in the ground at only 12" deep but it needs to be powered by a GFCI breaker but your local codes might say something different. You need to check them.

RE: 2009 Dodge 1500 test drive......

they already are dealing, I saw an ad for the new 09 Dodges & they're already offering them at $10K off sticker....
Only $20k more off and I can afford one.
After reading the reviews, I really want one. Go straight from a 2nd gen Ram to a 4th gen Ram. I've seen no negative reviews on it. Maybe by 2012 I can afford an '09.

RE: 2009 Dodge 1500 test drive......

Remember they probably have a ton of '08's sitting on their lot too. They want to get rid of them first. I'm sure the price will drop later in the year.

RE: Tough Decision, Advice?

You made a great choice. We have a 2002 Prowler and it's solid. I was really impressed with the build quality of it especially when compared with my cousin's 2002 Jayco Eagle. I was really surprised with the difference in the two tt's and how well both trailers are holding up. I'll be honest, with the reputation that Jayco has, I was shocked. I would buy another Prowler in a heartbeat.

RE: Question On Towing

If I was unsure about my set up and the dealership made me sign a waver, that would send up a big red flag about my set up.
As it was said before the only rule is cover yourself. The dealership does it and we need to do it as well.

The art of towing

Here's a really good article I found about towing. It has a lot of basic info that most of us already know but it's an excellent write up for the beginner, or anybody for that matter. Your never too old to learn or to be reminded.

RE: 3 way switch in stick house

Every one wires up these switches differently. The bottom line is two wires are travelers. They are paired up. They go on the two brass screws on both switches. What ever colors are paired up on one switch will be the same colors on the other switch. Typically on one side the third wire is the feed and that will go on the black screw. On the other side the third wire is the switch leg, that's the wire that goes to the light and that will get hooked to the black screw on the other switch.
Now for the million dollor question...Which one is which? I can't tell you that. Like I said each person does it differently. You'll need to get a meter and figure out which one of the six wires is the feed or hot wire. If you can't figure it out you might have to hire an electrician to do it.
I hope this helps a little.

RE: Residential electrical question

Nope, it's in violation of code.
14 gauge wire must be protected by 15A breaker. It's also against code to reduce the wire size out on the circuit, so swapping the breaker with a 15A one won't work either.
Just get 12 gauge wire, and wire the circuit with that.
Agreed, use a 12 gauge wire and be done with it. Putting 14 ga wire on a 20 amp breaker is a big no no.

RE: Something new I've learned about tires.

but I've never used a closed shoulder that was worth a******off the hardtop.
My tires seem to very good off road, in the mud and great in the snow too.
Now, In Dave's defense he said that they "tend to be" not "they always are". Every truck, tire, and towing combo are going to be different. I realize that. I have no idea what the 5th wheel's setup was. I just figured I'd throw this story out for discussion. Just one more factor to think about when picking out tires.

RE: Something new I've learned about tires.

Just a thought....
Your tire guy might have been refering to side wall strength and not just tire tred design...Most agressive (not all) tred tires are designed also for off high way use and as such have more flexible side walls. The idea is to give a more flexible and bigger foot print when off roading over uneven ground. A more flexible side wall (on the road) will give the same effect of a low tire (soft and sway) when loaded. I have not heard of tred design alone affecting towing other than in regards to wet, dry or snow conditions.JM2C
That might be it. A combination of both, tread and sidewall.

RE: Something new I've learned about tires.

He said they tend to be more unstable. Maybe that's not true for every tire but in his experience that's what he noticed. And I think he has a boat, I'm not sure. I know this is going to be another thread where everybody is just going to agree to disagree but I thought I'd throw that out there.
Personally, I'd listen to him. So far he hasn't steered me wrong. And yes the Toyo's cost more than the Firestone's so that's not the motivation. (just wanted to head that one off at the pass);)

Something new I've learned about tires.

This might be old news to some or maybe even most of you but I didn't know this.
My wife's minivan had a slow leak so I took it to my local tire guy Dave, he owns TireTech in Williamstown (for you local people). He's a great guy and he knows tires inside and out. Anyway while his guys were patching my wife's tire I commented about a set of tires he had in the show room. I wanted to get them when my Firestone Transforce AT's wear out. They were Toyo Open Country AT's. They were nice looking. Really deep tread, nice pattern.
He said they are a nice tire but then he asked me if I tow anything. I told him about my TT and he said that open shoulder tires are more unstable than closed shoulder design tires when it comes to towing heavier loads. He told me he had a guy who had a 5th wheel come in who just bought a set of open shoulder tires off him and said that he almost lost control of his rig. It turned out to be the tires. Dave warned him ahead of time but he didn't listen. He put closed shoulder tires on his truck and no further problems.
Like I said some of you guys might already know this but it's news to me. Here are some examples of tires.
